Recipe : Lemon and honey panna cotta

I have a very short list when it comes to desserts that I can make.

This is one of them.

The first time I tasted panna cotta was at an antenatal class with hubby in 2010. He really liked the texture and taste of it, so when we were back home I googled the recipe and decided to try it out (I'd do anything to keep his tummy happy haha).

It's not that hard to make actually, and the best part is you can get creative with what you serve it with. There are plenty of variations of panna cotta recipes on the internet for you to try, but if you are a beginner and you'd like to try a simple one, you can start with my recipe.

Panna cotta is actually an Italian dessert, and it literally means "cooked cream". It has this firm, pudding-ish texture as a result of the gelatine that we put at the end of the cooking. It's really simple, just give it a try and you'll get better at it in no time.

Lemon and honey panna cotta

Yield : 3 servings

Lemon honey panna cotta


1 small carton of whipping/cooking cream
2 tbsp of honey (you can put more if you prefer sweeter)
Zest of 1 lemon (or you can also use juice of half lemon, but it has a stronger taste)
1 tsp of powdered gelatine
Summer berries for serving (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries)

1) In a small bowl, dissolve the gelatine with cold water (around 1/2 cup of water)

2) In a saucepan, heat honey until it becomes a little runny

3) Pour and stir in the cream

4) Add lemon zest/juice and stir until everything is mixed well

5) Turn of the heat, and while it is still hot, pour in the gelatine

6) Pour in the cooked cream into 3 ramekins/serving cups

7) Let it cool for a while and put them into the fridge for them to set (around 1-2 hours)

8) Serve them with berries and a little drizzle of honey, if you like.
