Life of Pi, the storybook, not the movie.

I remember being introduced to this book by the same person who made me fall in love with books when I was 9, my aunty Mak Teh, a lifelong educator, who is one of the people that I admire in life because of her passion in teaching and in English.

Only a few years later I finally managed to really sit down and finish this book, right before the movie debuts. I made a point that I am not going to live with the movie version, I always know that a good story like this can only be justified by a long, elaborate and fulfilling storybook.

Thank God i finished it. Because it was worth all my time.

If you are into life stories, and if you are looking for a wider perspective on life and religion, this is the book for you. Well if you are interested in zoology then this is a book for you too, I learned quite a lot of things about animals in this book. Very interesting indeed.

There are plenty of life ironies written in this book which I absolutely love. I am always fascinated on how life could be so ironic, so impossible at times, yet we somehow make it through. That our understanding of the world is only limited to what we have experienced, which is just a small chunk of what life and the world can actually bring to us.

"I must say a word about fear. It is life's only true opponent. Only fear can defeat life. It is a clever, treacherous adversary, how well I know. It has no decency, respects no law or convention, shows no mercy. It goes for your weakest spot, which it finds with unnerving ease. It begins in your mind, always ... so you must fight hard to express it. You must fight hard to shine the light of words upon it. Because if you don't, if your fear becomes a wordless darkness that you avoid, perhaps even manage to forget, you open yourself to further attacks of fear because you never truly fought the opponent who defeated you.”
Yann Martel, Life of Pi

Hey Veen. Of course. I bought mine just recently in MPH. I think the book is easily found on the fiction corner, or you can always check in their system.
